Mauna Kea Resort Properties

The Mauna Kea Resort is the original Kohala Coast resort, conceived and built by Laurance S. Rockefeller, who fell in love with the property’s signature pristine white sand beach, first opening in the 1960s.  The northernmost of the Kohala Coast Resorts, Mauna Kea Resort is also very exclusive.  Available residences at the Mauna Kea Resort include oceanfront estates and ocean view resort homes, as well as resort condominiums and the new Hapuna Beach Residences.  The resort’s two hotels, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and newly rechristened Westin Hapuna Beach, claim some of the best beaches on the Big Island’s western coast at Kauna’oa Bay and Hapuna Beach.  Hapuna Beach also host excellent waters for serious swimmers. 

In addition to the fantastic beaches, for the serious golfers Mauna Kea Resort boasts two championship 18-hole golf courses.  The Mauna Kea Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is extremely challenging and is the standard by which other course on the Big Island are measured.  Mauna Kea Golf Course is consistently ranked as one of the world’s best courses.  The Hapuna Beach Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer design, is a links course with ocean views from a number of holes.  The Club at Mauna Kea, available to owners at the Mauna Kea Resort, gives access to all resort and hotel amenities including the beach, pool, fitness centers, the Mauna Kea Spa, golf, and tennis.  And the art collections and fine dining options at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the Westin Hapuna Beach are superb.
